"Uneven but worth the read" according to J. Edgar Mihelic, MBA. Verso was running a sale on their site, so I went ahead and bought this due to my love both of Bohemians and Graphic novels. Overall, it was an interesting book, with biographical info about some people I was familiar with and people I learned about for the first time. The only issue is that there is an unevenness to each of the stories in terms of quality of the art and the research that went into the story. For example, there is an example where the cartoonist is showing the Panama Canal (P. 11) - in a story that takes place prior to the digging of the canal. Little things li. "Loaded with historical information - and fun to read!" according to TeriA. I have always loved historical fiction and nonfiction, and the cartoon format of this book made it fun to read. I wasn't sure what to expect when I downloaded a copy of BOHEMIANS to read, but quickly found myself totally engrossed in the history of Oscar Wilde, Josephine Baker, and Woody Guthrie. The thing that I enjoyed most about this book was the representation of women throughout history. From the "new woman with her independent-mindedness" during the Civil War era, to meetings of the HETERODOXY CLUB, (for women who did things); from Gertrude Stein in "Les salons de Paris",.
