"Surprise! He's deeper than he wants you to think he is." according to John Emm. You shouldn't expect tremendous writing skills or particularly deep insights, and you won't get them here. But Roth turns out to be a pretty substantial person, and when you follow his path from suburbia -- the son of well-set parents, who instead of going the usual doctor-or-lawyer route took jobs shoveling manure in stables and finding out what "real" people do with their lives -- to the greatest heights of 1970s arena rock -- it's nice to discover a fairly authentic person hiding behind all his glitz and puffery.Even if he still doesn't want you to notice it.I thought it was a c. This is one of my standard "beach" books Capt. Farebrother It might seem like an odd choice, but "Crazy From the Heat" retains a permanant spot in my beach bag for one very simple reason: Diamond Dave understands island time. The prose is VERY laid back: in fact, I strongly suspect someone gave Dave a list of topics, turned a tape recorder on, then simply transcribed the resulting stream-of-consciousness rambling that came forth. There's very little slagging his former band here: In fact, I found Dave to be generally complimentary about the Brothers VH (and we can forgive a little dig here and there). And guess what? Legendary ego aside, . Meh. I was really excited to finally read this, but once doing so realized why it is no longer in print. It is less of a biography and more of an advertisement for all things Dave. There are some interesting anecdotes and a few behind the scenes, but nothing I could live without.
Don't come to this table expecting polite discourse, just sit back and suck down outlandish anecdotes from a semi-charmed life. The 800-pound guerrilla style of the narrative (the F-word appears twice in the first paragraph) spares no detail from his straight-outta-Hollywood beginnings: He saw his first psychiatrist for being "superactive" when he was 6 years old; had read the Koran and Lenny Bruce's How to Talk Dirty and Influence People by the time he was 13; and had oral sex in 10th grade (while watching Buddy Hackett on The Tonight Show!). -- Entertainment Weekly. it is only in this aw-what-the-freak frame of mind that you should attempt Roth's autobiography, Crazy from the Heat
In this unapologetic, Technicolor, high-fiber blast, David Lee Roth comes across with seemingly unlimited energy and graphic clarity. of photos.. The tales from the larger-than-life spectacle that was the glory days of Van Halen are the stuff of rock and roll legend
