Seeing through the myths of Gram Jason Walker has done an outstanding job in capturing what Gram Parson was really about, his strengths and his many weaknesses. He dispels various myths and adds plenty of detail to the final myth - Gram's cremation at Cap Rock in the Joshua Tree national park. There's plenty here about Gram's southern gothic upbringing - no wonder he was a screwed up guy with a reliance on various substances. His doomed friendship with Keith Richards is here too, and some of it is a bit sad. Emmylou Harris was nearly his saviour, but Gram w. "Tolerable" according to L. Ross. Not very well written. Many 'facts' simply not true or unsubstatiated. Very poor editing - so much of this has been written about ad nauseum. I imagine it's a very easy job to simply check the facts - most of the minutiae of Gram Parsons' life is very well documented! However, I applaud the fact that the author took the trouble to track down Michael Martin and talk to him about the final trip to Joshua Tree with Gram and Phil Kaufman.. He was briefly a theology student at Harvard, but was to descend into a demonic world of drink and drugs whilst singing about the virtues of the Christian life. Through interviews with colleagues, friends and collaborators Walker traces Parsons' life and career from the formative years to his early death, including his work with the Shilos, the International Submarine Band, the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers, as well as his solo career. All the key events, such as his friendship with Keith Richards and the Rolling Stones a
