If you even have passing familiarity with the hip hop scene of the 80s, you'll want to read this book. All the stars, and to-be stars are represented, plus you get a history lesson on what it was really like for rap and rekkids back then. The art work is excellent and the large format makes you feel like you're in another time. Totally worth it for the stories, the memories, and the action.. One of the best graphic novel series ever published, a standout example of the art form. This book, along with Volume 1 are two of the best examples of the Graphic Novel as a method for narrative storytelling in the last ten years. This sits on my shelf alongside books like "Maus", "The Dark Knight Returns", "The Watchmen", "American Splendor", "Love and Rockets", and the "Acme Novelty Library". If you're even a passing fan of Hip Hop, or Hip Hop history and culture, this book is a must-have.. I enjoy them for their great You know, I have zero affinity with hip hop but Piskor's books make me curious. I enjoy them for their great, obsessively detailed historiography of what is a milestone in musical development, and for their quiet sense of humor. Plus I giggle every time I see Russell Simmons.
