Brilliant and Poetic Examination of an American Troubadour Sarah Hartt This is one of the most brilliantly written books on music I've read. I learned many fascinating things about John Mellencamp, and also thought about American culture in new ways, after reading it. Anyone who is curious about Mellencamp, and his relevance in rock 'n' roll, and even America, should read this book.. "not a good pop biography" according to John Matro. First, let me say that I like Mellencamp’s music and have all of his recordings. I think that he’s one of the best songwriters in America, and has been for a couple of decades. But this book aggrandizes Mellencamp in an over-the top way that detracts from my impression of him. An example of a well-written biography is Robert Gordon’s book &ldquo. "Buy it, read it" according to Cinball. I know A LOT about Mellencamp, but learned a few new things about him that was in this book. This is a good read and gives you a new perspective about what kind of a man he is. Would recommend to any Mellencamp or Seger fan.
