A streamlined and riveting narrative." -- Wall Street Journal"Nothing written about Elvis Presley comes close to the detail, authority and uncondescending objectivity that Peter Guralnick has brought to his two-volume biography. Guralnick's narrative is rendered with an intimate, restrained intensity eerily reminiscent of the plaintive tone of Presley's ballads, that tremulous yearning of America itself." -- Stephen Wright, New York Times Book Review"Elvis the incendiary musical firebrand loner who conquered the western world, he steps from these pages, you can f

Angela Barney said Most COMPLETE biography. A MUST have for ANY Elvis fan! I am new to the Elvis-sphere and found these books to be geniuine and honest. I enjoyed reading them very much and have found myself picking them up to look again at different sections. Peter Guralnick has given me an insight into the world of Elvis that I never thought to glimpse. Fantastic!. In depth look at the life of Elvis I am still reading the first book, Last Train to Memphis, and it is definitely an interesting read. The book goes into detail the social and economic settings of the times which makes an interesting twist. You find out more about Elvis's family, especially his parents, than ever before. That kind of explains things to come after Elvis's initial rise to fame and what happens during the 60's and 70's leading to Elvis's demise. If Gladys had lived longer, and much longer too, then the career of Elvis may have had a whole different outcome. Or at least a longer life. I can't wa. Peter Guralnick: Last Train to Memphis, two-book set william meyers Peter Guralnick Last Train to Memphis: This came promptly, in perfect condition. To my surprise the two-book set is inside a beautiful cardboard sleeve with a wrap-around photo of Graceland in the snow. So this can sit on your book shelves in grand display. The content of the books is extraordinary in showing what a musical genius Elvis was. The details prove how accomplished he was as a singer and a performer, getting into it with his whole heart and soul. Also, the way he treated others was exceptional. And it's true, he saw no color line. Terrific books. Thank you!!!!!
