A very, very good collection of San Francisco Chronicle columnist, John Stanley's interviews from his 20+ years working there. Since the book is heavy on article vs. actual interview, it may not be that revealing for some. However, the fact that Stanley had access to all of these various comic celebrities from Bob Hope to Mel Blanc to Moe Howard(!) is remarkable! I wish there were a few more of the candid shots that grace the back of the book, and also since I'm not a huge M*A*S*H fan, the interviews with virtually ever ca. "A Gifted Reporter and His Talented Subjects" according to Sandra Grabman. I just finished reading this tonight and immediately began Volume 2. It's a wonderful resource, shining light on our favorite comedy stars over the years, beginning with interviews very early in their careers to where-are-they-now updates. An excellent addition to my book shelf.
