"An altogether worthwhile experience for those who admire either the man or his music." —Dayton Daily News

Follett R said Some serious flaws. Regardless, perhaps the definitive Lennon bio. I have been a life-long fan of John Lennon. It's not simply that I love his music; I find the man himself utterly fascinating. That said, I feel that I am in a somewhat unique position to critique works such as this book, as I do not have the the tendency most people do to hero worship artists/celebrities whose work I love.Let me first point out that this book is more a psychological study of a very compl. Hans Pfaall said three stars, recommended. Like many others, I came to this book somewhat hesitantly. It was denounced by pretty much everyone in the Beatles’ camp, including Paul McCartney, and authorized biographer Hunter Davies. Having previously read a number of Beatles-related books, I confirm there to be questionable conclusions on the part of the author, and a number of episodes smacking of sensationalism. Chief among them is the unea. Decide this book's validity by reading it yourself. Thomas Stamper Those in the rock world largely denounced this book, and for all I know it may be hooey, but boy was it a page-turner. It works largely because the events and descriptions seem consistent with what we already know of the Beatles and Rock & Roll in general. The private descriptions of Lennon and all of the Beatles seem to match their public persona just enough that you nod your head. The Goldman assessment

It is a lasting tribute to his brilliant achievements and a revelation of the price he paid for them.. The result of six years of research and some 1,200 interviews, this book takes fans deep into Lennon’s secretive world, from his traumatic childhood to his Beatles days to his hidden life with Yoko Ono. The Lives of John Lennon exposed for the first time all of his various lives, from idealist to cynic, from ascetic to junkie. While the Lennon of legend enjoyed a gifted and inspired life, the private Lennon lived in torment, poisoning himself with drugs and self-hatred
