Broadway orchestration: a craft that rises to the level of art Steven Suskin's comprehensive survey of Broadway orchestrators tells the stories of a remarkably small number of incredibly talented musicians. The Broadway "sound" to which we have become accustomed was the work of perhaps half a dozen orchestrators: Robert Russell Bennett, Don Walker, Phil Lang, Ralph Burns, Robert Ginzler, and Irv Kostal (and a very few others).
