Yes, it's a familiar framework, but the telling of Meat Loaf's rise, fall, and recovery is never anything less than fresh and absorbing. Then came the colossal excesses and flop follow-ups, capped by a rebound called--you guessed it--Bat out of Hell II: Back into Hell. Meat Loaf grew up in Dallas, Texas, the son of a schoolteacher (she penned a locally popular textbook on Communism) and an alcoholic cop (who happened to be an acquaintance of Jack Ruby). (Literally--he's suffered 17 concussions thus far, which provide an oddly effective narrative device.) He lurched into the middle of the JFK assassination scene, picked up a hitchhiking Charlie Manson, earned a part in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and recorded one of the most successful albums of the '70s, Bat out of Hell. Amazing Book. I adore this man!! I adored this book. It's very telling. I love how personal the look into his life is. A must read for any fan. The pictures are fun, personal, random and rare. Not what you'd normally see if you just threw meatloaf into google well not that you'd even see pictures of him if you threw that into google just pictures of dinner I guess. All the music fans in my life have asked to borrow it. He is such a talented individual who has been through so much. A great read that makes a great g. "It was good, but not the same as the VH1 Movie" according to jamesh-lantern-media. I finished this book in two days and it was goodI was a little taken back by the inconsistencies between this and the VH-1 Meat Loaf movieBeing that the book has Meats own words, I would believe the books version, but the differences between the two are amazingThe scarfs origin, moms death, his older child was from his wifes previous marraige, the reconcilliation with Steinman, are to name just a few of the differences.Overall it was a good quick read. I have to agree with a prev. Five Stars A great read for any Meat Loaf fan.
