A must for gardeners everywhere Nichol's writing is humorous and sharp. His characters are well developed and hilarious. I own about 7 of his books and plan to buy more. These are the type of books you can read over and over again. Even if you are not a gardener I think you would enjoy the humor. Highly recommended.. "Building up the narrative" according to Ginny. Having just read the MERRY HALL trilogy (which is fabulous) this was a bit of a disappointment. Well written but not as engaging or humorous and sometimes he's just writing to build up the word count -- or so it seems. The characterizations, the narrative and dialogue are good and so are the descriptions but his writing improve. 1/2 stars but there is no way to so designate. This is the last of the Down the Garden Path series. This book has a bit of a plot, so it takes a different tack than the two earlier books. By focusing on the village, Nichols leaves his house and garden behind so this book lacks the intimate details and humor of the first two.
