She also introduces us to the show's many writers, showing how their backgrounds, experiences, and relationships with those four. Still Wondering "Why the Monkees Matter" James R. Bowers I was looking forward to what may be the first serious academic treatment of the Monkees. And while the author does try to deliver such a treatment, her efforts fall short. The principal weakness is in the application of a theoretical framework that doesn't fit well with the Monkees' as a TV show. She appears to want to make the show such a counter-cultural revolution icon that she stretches beyond credibility her "evidence" and often dismisses contradictions that weakens her argument.
