The bulk of the book focuses on the ABBA years, but as the story of the group and its members develop, the book takes a look at the group's musical development, offering a critique of the group's songs in terms of European tradition. The style may be a bit dry, as others have stated, but none of these people are incredibly flamboyant anyway (70s costumes aside!). I learned a lot more about each of the members than I ever knew before, which was very satisfying. There was also more information about their interactions as two couples outside the group and the friendship between Frida and Agnetha in those early years when they lived near each other.Frida de. A Comprhenisve History of ABBA Mark Stone This book was not an easy read, but for a good reason. Author Palm is meticulous in his detailing of the lives of all four band members and their manager Stig Anderson. Perhaps there is a bit too much detail in this book for casual readers, but the writing style is so engaging that I felt compelled to complete it.I see there is a planned updated 600-page edition to be released in September. This book has 554 pages, and ends circa 2002. For $5.00 more, you can read 46 pages that will presumably take ABBA thru 2008. I'll read those last pages in a cushy chair in the bookstore.

'Another fine addition to the canon of music biographiesPalm's biography is extremely thorough and dipped deeply in a pond of melancholy. A powerful, moving read.' THE TIMES BOOKS OF THE YEAR 2002
