Rather, she offers 46 vignettes that are as likely to be poignant sketches of ordinary people as about her celebrated family and friends. Even the stars are humanized by her sensitivity, which grieves for their shortcomings without ever sensationalizing them. Some of Cash's folksy-style writing is overdone, but one never doubts that she is sincere. Growing up in country music's legendary Carter Family and marrying Johnny Cash were bound to have provided her with some extraordinary experiences, but the ones she recounts here are not about show business triumphs. .
