Although out of print, this is well worth searching out, as it is one of the best overviews of the top guitarists of the past 60 years.
He also describes the individual's contribution and influence on the genre as a whole. Kienzle gives detailed tracings of stylistic approach and growth interspersed with some biographical information. Primary essays, four to five pages in length, cover such greats as Elmore James, Chet Atkins, Django Reinhardt and Jimi Hendrix. Kienzle's knowledge, combined with a lucid text, makes this book accessible to both serious researchers and browsers alike. .
