Original unrevised way better. Marian I was already very familiar with Isadora and her life and work, and had read her autobiography many times before and so was very disappointed with the review/intro at beginning of this one that was added to this revised autobiography. I would recommend the original autobiography over this one I was not at all interested in the added interpretation of the author's autobiography which speaks more than well enough for itself. Her opinions about Isadora and other people's views of her , even if correctly represented which i did not think for the most part werethough in some partst were (and according to many more superficial views. Disappointing The life of Isadora Duncan was undoubtedly worth writing about, but she was not the one to do it. Her turgid writing style and overblown dramatics make the autobiography almost unreadable. She had a great deal of sadness and reason for heartbreak but suffered excruciating highs and lows that may well have been part of her nature, and are exhausting to follow.. I would like to state that the world is indebted and grateful Sergiu Pobereznic (author) I know that I am probably going to commit Isadora Duncan sacrilege with this review, so before I begin, and for the record, I would like to state that the world is indebted and grateful for what Isadora Duncan achieved in her lifetime and what she stands for as an artist in the dance world. However, my critique is directed towards her writing (and perhaps her eccentric career claims) not her dance and career achievements.Although her fame is undoubtedly recognized throughout the world, my inner voice tells me that she was a serial confabulist from what I have just read. I feel absolutely terrible for admitting this about her me

Born in California, she lived throughout Europe from the age of twenty-two until her death at fiftyJoan Acocella, author of Twenty-Eight Artists and Two Saints, is the dance critic for The New Yorker. Isadora Duncan was one of the primary founders of modern dance.

My Life still stands alone as “a great document, revealing the truth of her life as she understood it, without reticence or apology or compromise” (New York Herald Tribune). From her early enchantment with classical music and poetry to her great successes abroad, to her sensational love affairs and headline-grabbing personal tragedies, Duncan’s story is a dramatic one. A remarkable account of a wildly artistic life, finally restored to its unexpurgated form, with a revealing new introduction by Joan Acocella. The visionary choreographer and dancer Isadora Duncan (1877–1927) not only revolutionized dance in the twentieth century but blazed a path for other visionaries who would follow in her wake. Now, in this fully restored edition, with its risqué recollections and fervent idealism, My Life can be appreciated by a new generation.. While many biographies have explored Duncan’s crucial role as one of the founders of modern dance, no other book has proved as criticalas both historical record and vivid evocation of a riveting lifeas her autobiography
