JSPt said Iconic Twentieth Century Man. Innumerable times during my childhood people told me that my father looked like Paul Newman. When we were in public with my father, people would nudge companions, point in our direction and move closerjust enough to see that my brunette mother was not Joanne and we three brunette girls were NOT Paul Newman's children. Paul Newman was a favorite actor, philanthropist and political supporter in our household. But, I knew little about the chronology, ideology and philosophy of this most extraordinary man of modern twentieth century America. I decided to read this book in memory of my dec. I can't say I began reading this book with objectivity since I am a lifelong Paul Newman fan.I will say that I got to know him better through this book and discovered a much more complicated actor-racer-entrepreneur-philanthropist than I expected. He was an inherently self-absorbed human, blessed with many gifts and much luck, who spent his life pursuing personal passions, often ignoring the needs or wishes of those closest to him.
