I have just finished Larry's book Sudden Terror. Sgt. Crompton and I were Deputy Sheriff's with the Contra Costa Co. Sheriff's Dept. and were both actively involved in trying to apprehend the EAR. I have read all of the other review's on this site and would like to take the opportunity to respond to some of the criticism. First, I do agree with the poster who felt the book was a little on the dull side as an overall read. I noticed this also especially re: the repetitious desciptions of EAR's. The pain and terror may have diminished in the minds of the victims, I hope that the pain does not return. Because I was not involved in the initial rape investigations, they are written from hundreds of reports, notes, memos, newspaper clippings, conversations and interviews with those who were involved. The crimes are real. The crimes are factual. They have suffered enough.. The names of the victims, witnesses and suspects are fictitious; the terror, the dialogue during the crimes, and the investigations are real. My intent is to tell the story without endangering the privacy or the dignity of the victims. While all characters and events have direct counterparts in the telling of the story, I have created some dialogue in the interest of readability. The cops involved in the cases after I was involved are real, their names and dialogue is factual, the investigations are real.
