This book is okay but is nowhere near as succinct as the Inner Game of Tennis by Tim Gallwey. This book tends to go off on too many tangents and often repeats itself incessantly. It mostly just discusses ways of keeping Self 1 at bay and just goes on and on about it. The Tennis Book is Better, Even for Musicians I literally read the Inner Game of Tennis right before I read this book. I was fascinated and felt it had immediate effects on my playing. I thought it'd be an appropriate Christmas gift for my drum teacher who, without knowing it, uses a similar approach and had never heard of the book. While looking for it on Amazon, I noticed they had The Inner Game of Music and, after reading some of the glowing reviews, I decided to buy that one instead as it seemed more relevant.
