If I Can Dream: Elvis' Own Story

'Elvis and Gladys' and already knowing that Elvis was intelligent and well read Having just read 'Elvis and Gladys' and already knowing that Elvis was intelligent and well read, I have to say the narrative could have been more gripping and unique. It's a thorough book to a point, and obviously Mr Geller greatly enjoyed Elvis, but there were few details other than somewhat ordinary ones concerning day to day events that really enlightened me about Elvis. In 'Elvis and Gladys', Elaine Dundy fills the book with her own detailed thoughts and an enormous number of highly personal insights based on dozens of witnesses and participants. Mr Geller contents himself with a more limited cast of characters and a great deal. Just Excellent Cathie Hilton Couldn't put the book down. Thank you, Larry Geller, for being who your are and being there for Elvis. I love what you wrote on page 273: "I stayed because Elvis was my friend. The fact that he chose not to do the right things for himself didn't relieve me of a moral obligation, as a friend, to point those things out to him. He wasn't what many believe, a man bent on self-destruction who because what he was to punish anyone. He needed to know that when and if he took charge of his life, someone would be there. But he also need to know that even if he never did that, someone would be there, too." That is love.I was disappointed that . Five Stars Excellent read - feels like E himself was writing it. Geller sounds like he was a loyal friend.

Despite a pervasive self-serving tone, the book accomplishes that even though there is scandal aplenty: Presley's drug abuse, the perfidies of Col. Tom Parker and the excesses of the "Memphis Mafia." But the authors emphasize Presley's positive traits, his extraordinary generosity, his sensitivity and loyalty. Much of the book focuses on the star's pursuit of spiritual understanding, and his and Geller's mutual exploration of esoteric philosophies. . Presley fans will be gratified by the confirmation that the King was a fine fellow; detractors will discover little new fodder here. We're also told that he was quite intelligent and surprisingly well-read. From Publishers Weekly Romanowski ( Dreamgirl ) and Broadway producer Spector collaborate here with Presley spiritual adviser and hairdresser Geller to present the singer in a better light than he has been shown in previous books.
