"Great collection but no lyrics." according to Sean McCoy. This is a superb collection of Irish ballads, hornpipes, jigs and reels. However, as it lacks lyrics and a companion CD it is only useful if you are already familiar with the tunes. The book also lacks much in the way of tinwhistle instruction, but it is still a good place to start. If lyrics and a companion CD were included this would be the only book needed to begin learning the tinwhistle. It's strength is in the layout and tune selection. The book is divided into ballads, hornpipes, jigs and reels which is help. Decent, but with a few major issues This book is a bit confusing in its target audience. I'm assuming it's for fairly beginning players because it prints the hole diagram under each note on the staff. Because it's aimed at beginners, I'm surprised it doesn't include an audio CD- It's extremely difficult to sight-read Celtic music for rhythm without having heard the song (or a variant) before, and needless to say that would make it more for an experienced player (making the hole diagrams unsightly and distracting).However, the most egregious error is .
