Great resource and a wild ridenot for the thin-skinned MER I read this as background for a writing project I'm working on. I've read a number of books now about the NYPD in the 1970's but this was the best--if not for the great story, the vernacular alone is fascinating. In fact, I was so grateful for the book I had to write a review (included below). Though it's certainly not for the thin skinned, those who want a real glimpse of some fascinating cop history (and have a few laughs & insights while doing so) it's a great resour. Charles Kelly said Absolutely brilliant!. The “street cop” story, well told, has been a cornerstone of the American experience. The drama of people in distress and the policemen who try to help them out while dealing with their own troubles is always engaging: never more so than when the writer has been in the trenches and knows what he is talking about.
